2026 World Cup : Haiti, outclassed by Brazil, loses [3-0] and is eliminated (video) 20/06/2026 06:56:51
On Friday, June 19, 2026, as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, our Grenadiers, playing before 68,324 spectators who nearly filled the stands at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, faced Brazil's Seleção (ranked 83rd in the world) in a match. Despite their best efforts, our Grenadiers were outclassed by the Seleção and lost 3-0. This second defeat, following their loss to Scotland (1-0), is a decisive blow for Haiti, who finished last in Group C and are eliminated from the World Cup. Summary : On Matchday 2 of Group C at the 2026 World Cup, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Brazil defeated Haiti 3-0. This loss unfortunately seals the official elimination of the Grenadiers, while the Seleção bounces back after their initial draw against Morocco and takes the lead in Group C. Now out of contention for the Round of 32, our Grenadiers will play their final group match on Wednesday, June 24, against Morocco for pride. The Grenadiers will be eager to play kingmaker in this group and give their all to leave the competition on a positive note. Coach Sébastien Migné opted for a defensive 5-4-1 formation for Haiti to contain the 4-2-3-1 of his Brazilian counterpart, Carlo Ancelotti. Unfortunately, Haiti's resistance was quickly put to the test. They started aggressively and with a difficult start, receiving an early yellow card for Carlens Arcus in the 4th minute. Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha opened the scoring for Brazil in the 23rd minute [1-0]. Cunha, perfectly set up by Vinícius Júnior in the 36th minute, scored his second goal [2-0]. Just before halftime, Vinícius Júnior extended the lead with an assist from Lucas Paquetá, extinguishing the Grenadiers' last hopes [3-0] before the break after this one-sided first half. After the break, the second half was more balanced. French coach Sébastien Migné made tactical adjustments immediately after the restart (46' Wilson Isidor replaced Frantzdy Pierrot and 46' Dany Jean Simon replaced Carlens Arcus). Our Grenadiers were more enterprising and disciplined, managing to contain the attacks of the Seleção. The Grenadiers created a few opportunities, notably through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde on the left wing and Jonel Casimir, but the Brazilian defense, led by Marquinhos and goalkeeper Alisson, remained vigilant. Final score: 3-0. Despite the defeat, Haiti showed that it can play attractive football against the world's number 5 team.
